North American Red Squirrels can be found for most aspects of the us where conifers are normal. Inside the southern Rockies you will find there's subspecies which is often refered to because Spruce Squirrel. It isn't practically as red because the squirrels found further north. Actually, the squirrel outlined on this site would likely be considered a Spruce Squirrel (it turned out filmed at 10,000 legs in the mountains near Fairplay, Colorado).
