North American Red Squirrels can be found in most parts of the us where conifers are normal. Inside the southern Rockies there exists a subspecies which is often refered to since the Spruce Squirrel. It isn't practically as red since the squirrels found further north. Actually, the squirrel outlined on this internet site would most likely be described as a Spruce Squirrel (it was filmed at 10,000 legs in the mountains near Fairplay, Colorado).

Red Squirrels usually only partner only one time a year, and females get into estrus just one day per year. This is exactly what is really a spontaneous ovulator.
