North American Red Squirrels are located generally in most regions of the united states where conifers are common. Inside the southern Rockies there's a subspecies that's often refered to because the Spruce Squirrel. It isn't practically as red as the squirrels found further north. Actually, the squirrel outlined on this website would likely be described as a Spruce Squirrel (it had been filmed at 10,000 legs in the mountains near Fairplay, Colorado).
