North American Red Squirrels are located in most regions of the us where conifers are routine. Inside the southern Rockies there is a subspecies that is often refered to because Spruce Squirrel. It isn't practically as red because the squirrels found further north. Actually, the squirrel outlined on this web site would certainly be considered a Spruce Squirrel (it turned out filmed at 10,000 legs in high altitude climates near Fairplay, Colorado).
