North American Red Squirrels can be found in most regions of the united states where conifers are routine. Inside the southern Rockies you will find there's subspecies that's often refered to because the Spruce Squirrel. It isn't practically as red as the squirrels found further north. Actually, the squirrel outlined on this site would likely be a Spruce Squirrel (it was filmed at 10,000 legs in high altitude near Fairplay, Colorado).
