North American Red Squirrels can be found in most regions of the usa where conifers are routine. Inside the southern Rockies you will find there's subspecies which is often refered to since the Spruce Squirrel. It isn't practically as red because the squirrels found further north. Actually, the squirrel outlined on this site would most likely be described as a Spruce Squirrel (it was filmed at 10,000 legs in high altitude climates near Fairplay, Colorado).
