The North American Red Squirrels (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) can be an extremely common squirrel in THE UNITED STATES.  It will never be confused with all the Western european Red Squirrels that's probably the most frequent Eurasian squirrels.

North American Red Squirrels can be found generally in most aspects of the usa where conifers are routine. Inside the southern Rockies there exists a subspecies that is often refered to because the Spruce Squirrel. It isn't practically as red because squirrels found further north.
