North American Red Squirrels can be found generally in most regions of the united states where conifers are normal. Inside the southern Rockies there is a subspecies that is often refered to as the Spruce Squirrel. It isn't practically as red since the squirrels found further north. Actually, the squirrel outlined on this website would most likely be considered a Spruce Squirrel (it had been filmed at 10,000 legs out in the wild near Fairplay, Colorado).

Like the majority of squirrels, the North American Red Squirrels have high early on mortality. No more than 22% of young live to reach 1 year old. One study exhibited that females that survive to a minimum of a year old contain the average life span of 2.36 months. Maximum age brackets are generally about eight years for Red Squirrels.

Red Squirrels usually only partner just once per year, and females get into estrus only 1 day per annum. This is exactly what is actually a spontaneous ovulator.
